Shyam Saran Negi was the first voter of India. He was born on 1 July 1917 in Kalpa, Himachal Pradesh. He cast his first vote in the 1951 general election in India. It was India’s first election since the abolish of the British Raj in 1947. The majority of the election took place in February 1952, residents of Himachal Pradesh were given the chance to vote five months early. Negi voted in every general election since 1951. He is considered to be India's oldest voter as well its first. He also made a special presentation in a Hindi film Sanam Re.
